We met your mother through my cousin,
Audrey Ching Kim, who I believe was her roommate at UCLA.
I think Audrey thought it was a good idea for us to meet since
your father and my husband are both from Taiwan and I'm from
Hawaii, so we had that in common. This is over 30 years ago.
Your father was doing wallpapering in those days.
We have hardly seen each other or gotten
together since then but I do recall she had had a several
miscarriages. I had recommended that both she and your father
take Shaklee vitamins, which she did and wrote a note back
to me, saying she gives these food supplements most of the
credit for helping her come to full term with her first child.
She used to pick them up from my mother, who lives here in
Hawaii and who I stay with when I come to visit.
I have a photo in my album somewhere of
her, your father and the oldest son in front of our house
when they visited us at our former home in San Gabriel.
About 15-20 years ago Anna invited me
to your house for dinner on one of my visits to Hawaii. One
of the dishes was squid that she cooked Chinese style, and
for the first time I enjoyed squid. In fact, I had seconds
and thirds. To this day I have not eaten such tender and tasty
squid. I hope someone in your family has the recipe!
Since my husband worked for the Army Corps
of Engineers in L.A. and worked at the Federal Building there,
he ran into Anna a couple times when she came to L.A. for
training, but unfortunately we didn't get a chance to get
together.
I remember Anna as vivacious, fun and
hardworking. It was such a shock to hear of her sudden death.
I wish we had had more opportunities to get together. We certainly
enjoyed receiving Christmas cards with the family picture
and seeing the growth of you all.
