2006 Update

Aloha Everyone,

It has been a while since I last updated this page. With the help of a former Punahou classmate, Trevor Yee, I have been able to make the website look nicer and easier to navigate. If you have any suggestions on how to improve the site, please email me at rdunn98@yahoo.com.

It has been over 10 years now since my mom’s passing. A very long time, yet time has gone by quite fast. For me, the number 10 is very significant. I would like to report that all of the family members, both Dunn and Marn, are emotionally and psychologically healthy, but only time will tell. For me, tending to mom’s cemetery plot and doing this website has helped me understand who my mom was, and who I am and where I come from, and the expectations of me due to my mom.

So why have I not updated the site for 3 years, since 2003? Well, since the last time I updated, I have spent the majority of my time in Taiwan, completing my MBA at National Taiwan University. Since 2002 up until June of 2006 I was in Taiwan learning the language, culture, and further understanding where my Dad and grandparents and uncles came from. It is a very fascinating place with a very complex history.

I graduated from NTU in January of 2005 (took me 2 and a 1/2 years to complete my MBA), and eventually found a job trading convertible bonds for Yuanta on the Taiex. I did this job up until February 2006. I then began my Chinese language software project (www.chinesepda.com), and have been doing this since. I recently took a job in construction on Maui.

Dad is enjoying retired life. He recently remarried to a lady from China. He travels back and forth between China, USA, and Hawaii. He passes the time taking care of Michael, (youngest son) and his parents who are now in their 90s (very impressive).

Greg switched his specialty from oncology to radiology, and enjoys helping others by being a doctor. He has been married for a few years and recently had his first child whom they love dearly. The grandparents are especially fond of the new born great-grandchild. He lives in LA, California.

Laurie has been a teacher for Vietnamese kids in Boston since graduation, and learning what it means to be a teacher. She often catches colds from the children. She enjoys traveling and recently visited Syria to see a friend. She has also been to China, Ireland, and many more. She’s considering grad school.

Michael, aka Mikey, is taking college classes in LA at a private college, but considering switching to a UC school next year. He lives with Dad and recently bought a new car to commute to school. He’s turning out to be a good chef, and quite independent now. He likes to work out (like Roger) and got to go hiking, surfing, running in Hawaii this past June/July. He’s considering a specialty in computers.

A new scholarship for Sacred Hearts Academy girls has been set up by me in memory of my mother. It will be called the “Anna Marn Dunn” need-based scholarship. It will be for an amount over $3,000 and the criteria for the student is based on academics, community service, financial need, and character.

We (Dad, Mikey and me) recently redid the cemetery stone by resanding, repainting, and protecting it with a clear silicon coating. It looks just like new. Thanks to Mr. Kam for offering the polish shine which makes the stone look real nice. Mr. Kam also helps water and fertilize the grass plot when we are not around. Mahalo Nui Loa.

I have decided to come back to Hawaii since everyone else has left Hawaii and doing their own thing. I miss home, and want to be closer to my mom, her cemetery, and all the people who knew her.

I will be adding new pictures to the website for this 2006 update. We welcome new testimonials and pictures to further remember Anna Marn Dunn. I have lost touch with many of Anna’s friends, family, and co-workers. Please offer me their emails.

Aloha and Mahalo for reading.
